Fuel Tanks PDF Print E-mail

In most cases older fuel tanks have been poorly repaired numerous times by means of patches being applied on the outside of the fuel tank and then covered with a heavy layer of body filler and paint. However, this does not cure the basic problem of corrosion (rust) which will almost certainly continue to cause serious rust and scale. Chemical sealants may have been poured into the tank to stop leaks (leaks are usually the result of very small holes caused by corrosion or by separation of the seams caused by rust). Corrosion is rarely stopped by applying a sealant over the surface of the affected part. Inevitably, the tank skin continues to rot away in the course of time (not surprising after 70 or more years of use).

We prefer to fabricate our fuel tanks with terne plate which is steel coated in solder not body steel or tanks made to order out of non-ferrous metals such as brass or copper. Fuel tanks are fabricated using rivets and we refit all original fittings from your old tank or use replacement fittings which can be sourced or fabricated.
